DENVER—Prosecutors have filed charges against a 56-year-old man suspected in the 1992 beating and stabbing death of a woman in her home.
The Denver district attorney’s office says Carlton Smith is being held without bail and faces first-degree murder charges after his arrest Saturday. Charges were filed Wednesday.
Cold Case Unit detectives took over the homicide investigation in 2005 and zeroed in on Smith as a suspect in the death of 31-year-old Roslin Gray. Gray’s former husband and three children found her body.
Prosecutors have not released a motive but detectives say Smith and Gray didn’t know each other.
