Santa will park his sleigh and hop behind the wheel of a mail truck on Christmas Day in Aurora.
Mail carrier Doug Fischer will dress in a Santa suit when he delivers Express Mail packages on Christmas Day.
It’s the 11th straight year Fischer has made Christmas Day deliveries dressed as Santa. Christmas delivery of Express Mail is routine in large cities, but U.S. Postal Service spokesman Al DeSarro says not many carriers take on the role of Santa.
Fischer says he’ll greet customers with a “Ho! Ho! Ho!” as he does every year.
Says Fischer: “The little kids really think I’m Santa. Most everyone is very surprised. Many do not know that the Postal Service delivers Express Mail in major cities every day of the year, including Christmas. Dressing as Santa makes it a lot more fun.”
He says he may be especially welcome this year with the recession.
Fischer added: “It’s going to be even more special this year. Because of the down economy, a lot of people aren’t expecting much. So it will be great when they open their doors and get a last minute visit from Santa. I expect to see lots of smiling and happy faces from young and old alike.”
