DENVER—The U.S. Marshals Service says a federal inmate facing bank robbery charges from New Mexico died after hanging himself in his cell.

Deputy U.S. Marshal David Floyd says 29-year-old Eloy Medina was found unresponsive in his cell Tuesday night during a routine check at the Jefferson County jail in Golden on Denver’s western edge.

He died at a Denver hospital Wednesday morning.

Floyd says the death is under investigatiion.
