COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—A judge has ordered a 31-year-old man to stand trial on charges of stabbing a Colorado Springs resident to death.

Clifford Huery is charged with first-degree murder in the Aug. 20 slaying of 23-year-old Nicholas Murphy outside Murphy’s apartment.

El Paso County District Judge Thomas Kane on Monday ruled the evidence was sufficient to put Huery on trial. Another hearing in the case is scheduled for Jan. 9.

Court records say Murphy was trying to prevent some former neighbors from breaking in when he was stabbed. Authorities say the neighbors had been evicted from the building.

Huery is being held without bond at the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center.
