David Morelli gave Rocky Mountain an early lead with a first-period goal and scored in the shootout to lead the Rage to a 3-2 victory Saturday over the Southwest Division-leading Laredo Bucks in a Central Hockey League game at the Broomfield Event Center. Goalie Marty Magers stopped 24 shots for the Rage and turned back 3-of-4 shots in the shootout. Morelli also assisted on Mike Bulawka’s third-period goal that tied the game for the Rage (12-13-2).
Eagles fall to Scorpions.
The New Mexico Scorpions, which suited just 15 skaters, reversed a 19-game losing streak in Loveland by defeating the host Colorado Eagles 6-4 at Budweiser Events Center.
Christopher Robertson scored three goals to lead New Mexico. The Scorpions’ Lyon Messier, the 21-year-old son of former NHL great Mark Messier, recorded his first professional goal in the second period.
The Eagles got two goals from Ryan Tobler, and Ed McGrane added a goal and an assist. Colorado (22-5-1) retained the best record in the CHL.
Gill lifts 14ers to victory.
Eddie Gill’s game-winning 10-foot jump shot with 0.2 seconds remaining capped a late rally and gave the Colorado 14ers a 105-103 victory over the Utah Flash on Friday.
Colorado (7-3) came back from as many as eight points down in the fourth quarter. Josh Davis led the 14ers with 18 points, and Dominique Coleman added 16 points, 11 rebounds and four steals.
