Avalanche center Paul Stastny will have surgery Tuesday to repair his fractured right forearm, coach Tony Granato said today.
After the surgery, the team will know a more precise timetable for his recovery and return, but Granato indicated it is likely to be between six and eight weeks.
Stastny was injured after blocking a shot by Phoenix’s Olli Jokinen in a game last week.
In other Avs injury news, right wing Cody McCormick will be sidelined for an undetermined amount of time with a stress fracture in a foot. McCormick had been playing with the injury, the team said, but will be put onto a rehabilitation program and won’t play in the near term.

Spotlight on Paul Stastny: The Avalanche center, who suffered a fractured right forearm last week against Phoenix, is scheduled to undergo surgery Tuesday, coach Tony Granato said Sunday. Granato also indicated that the team expected more precise information on a possible timetable for Stastny after the surgery, but that the original estimateout 6 to 8 weeks — still is the team’s working assumption.
Avalanche notes: Winger Cody McCormick has been practicing and playing on an injured foot, and coach Tony Granato said Sunday it is a stress fracture that has gotten worse. McCormick didn’t skate Sunday, and he is scheduled to undergo additional evaluation today. . . . Colorado would be down to one extra healthy player and no extra forwards, so it’s possible the Avalanche will announce the recall of a forward from Lake Erie today. . . . Peter Budaj, who stopped 41 shots against Detroit on Saturday and won in the shootout, will get the start in net against the Predators.
Predators notes: Nashville played Sunday night at Edmonton. It will be the second straight home game for the Avs in which they will play a team on the second of back-to-back road games. . . . Entering the game, Nashville had scored just 10 goals in its previous seven contests. . . . Predators center Scott Nichol (upper body) is out. Terry Frei and Adrian Dater, The Denver Post
