FORT WORTH — With Air Force and Houston having already met in the regular season, Armed Forces executive director Tom Starr tried to attract Notre Dame. The Irish, however, opted to play in the Hawaii Bowl in Honolulu against the University of Hawaii instead of facing Air Force, to which they lost a year ago.

“We certainly had Notre Dame on our list,” Starr said. “We didn’t have anything against Conference USA, but we were trying to see if there was anything available to avoid the rematch of Houston and Air Force.”
