HONOLULU — Mike Trimboli scored 24 points to lead Vermont to an 84-59 win over a tired Colorado team Tuesday in the third-place game of the Rainbow Classic.
Colorado State met Buffalo for the tournament championship in a game that ended early today.
Trimboli made 8-of-9 field-goal attempts, including all four of his 3-pointers and 4-of-5 free throws. He also grabbed four rebounds and had five assists.
The Catamounts led by many as 28 points.
Cory Higgins led the Buffaloes with 18 points and five rebounds. He hit all four of his free throws to extend his streak of consecutive made free throws to 36.
The Buffs, who generally go seven-deep and did so (for the most part) in their first two games of the tournament, were forced to go deeper Tuesday.
