COLUMBIA, S.C.—South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford has his name riding on New Year’s Day bowl games involving state schools.

Sanford’s office said Wednesday that he wagered a donation to the Harvest Hope Food Bank in Columbia against counterparts in Nebraska and Iowa.

Clemson faces Nebraska in the Gator Bowl and South Carolina faces Iowa in the Outback Bowl on Thursday. Sanford is betting Nebraska Gov. Dave Heineman that the Tigers will win. He’s also betting Iowa Gov. Chet Culver that the Gamecocks will defeat the Hawkeyes.

The winning head of state will have their name on the donation.

The donations are being coordinated through the South Carolina Agriculture Department, The Nebraska Cattlemen’s Association and the Iowa Pork Producers.

Win or lose, the Nebraska and Iowa groups say theywill make similar donations in their state.
