Perhaps Baby Eve was given a nudge from the heavens.
The first baby born in Colorado in 2009 entered the world 11 seconds after midnight on her due day.
For Roman Catholics, Thursday was not only New Year’s Day but also was the celebration of the Solemnity of Mary. Hence Eve’s given middle name: Maria.
Eve became restless at a New Year’s Eve Mass after a week of relative calm in her mother’s womb.
“I went to the doctor on Monday, and there was no dilation, nothing. I thought, I’m not having this baby this week,” said 31-year-old Sarah Moser, Eve’s mother.
Her other two children were born late.
Driving to the hospital after the church service, Sarah and her husband, Tracy, didn’t think about having the first baby in 2009. Only when she was laboring did Moser hear one of the nurses mention it.
About 11:55 p.m., a nurse told her the baby was ready.
“A couple pushes, and she was out of there,” Moser said from her hospital bed at Swedish Medical Center on Thursday.
Moser calls her 7-pound, 5-ounce girl a miracle.
“We feel truly blessed. God was with us through this,” she said. “I feel very lucky.”
