The driver of a car that had been stolen only minutes before drove the vehicle into a tree in Denver early today and ended up killing himself and seriously injuring a passenger.

Denver police reported that they were dispatched to the scene of the accident at Lowell Boulevard and Amherst Avenue about 4:57 a.m. after receiving a 911 call.

The male driver was pronounced dead at the scene. A female passenger was transported to Denver Health Medical Center with serious injuries, and her condition was unknown.

Traffic investigation detectives determined that the vehicle was stolen from the 500 block of Quieto Way about 4:44 a.m. Police suspect the vehicle was left running and unattended in the driveway when the suspects stole it.

Neither the driver nor the passenger had any identification.

Police said the two appear to be Latino and are in their late teens or early twenties. The female has a “303” tattoo on her left hand, a star tattoo on her ring finger and a tattoo around her neck that reads “Only God Can Jugde.”

Police are asking people who have information about the two to contact them at 720-913-2000.
