A single vehicle roll-over on Interestate 76 in Weld County Saturday morning injured three people including a 16-year-old driver and a 2-year-old boy.
The boy, who was buckled into a child seat, suffered only minor injuries but was taken to a local hospital for observation, said Sgt. John Hahn, a Colorado State Patrol spokesman.
The 16-year-old female driver, who does not have a driver’s license, was not using a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle when it rolled, Hahn said.
She was taken to the North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley with serious injuries, Hahn said.
A 19-year-old passenger, the child’s mother, was also injured. She was airlifted to Denver Health Medical Center with “moderate” injuries, Hahn said. She was buckled-up.
None of the people involved in the crash were identified. All three are from the Sterling area.
Details on their injuries were not available.
The accident happened at about 9:40 a.m. between Keenesburg and Roggen in the eastbound lanes of the highway, Hahn said.
The driver drifted toward the median, overcorrected and ran the vehicle off the highway, rolling it, Hahn said.
The driver faces possible charges of careless driving causing injury, driving with out a license and without insurance, and a count of child abuse, Hahn said.
The crash remains under investigation.
