The incident occurred in the Troublesome Gulch area along Grand County Road 2.
The buck was shot and severely wounded by a poacher, who then left the area. It suffered several hours until it was spotted and reported to officers with the Division of Wildlife, who euthanized the deer.
A cash reward is available through Operation Game Thief for information leading to the issuing of a citation or an arrest in the case, DOW officials said.
