Recommendations of the Governor’s Working Group on Law Enforcement and Illegal Immigration include:
— Open federal fingerprint records to state authorities to help them catch illegal immigrants who commit serious crimes.
— Add jail beds at facilities in Colorado and Wyoming where Immigration and Customs Enforcement contracts with state or local officials to hold suspected illegal immigrants.
— Reimburse local authorities for the cost of detaining suspected illegal immigrants.
— Improve communication between ICE and local authorities, including having federal officials notify local law enforcement when they plan to deport someone who is awaiting trial on state criminal charges.
— Provide federally funded training for state judges and prosecutors on ICE policies and procedures.
— Provide federally funded training that helps state and local law enforcement agencies identify suspected illegal immigrants and gives them the authority to detain them.
