BOULDER, Colo.—Cory Higgins scored 24 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, helping the Colorado Buffaloes hold off Division II Western State College, 65-52, on Wednesday night in the first meeting between the schools in 73 years.
The Mountaineers (6-6) kept the game close before Colorado (8-6) pulled away late in the second half to snap a three-game losing streak.
Justin Avalos had 16 points to lead Western State. Cameron Burney added 10 points and nine rebounds.
Higgins went 5-for-5 at the free throw line to run his school and Big 12-record to 45 straight.
The Buffaloes are now 10-4 lifetime against Western State.
Colorado open up Big 12 play at Missouri next Wednesday.
