WASHINGTON — Roland Burris will be sworn in as a U.S. senator Thursday, ending the saga of his selection by impeached Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich.

Vice President Dick Cheney, in his role as Senate president, will do the honors for Burris about noon MST on the Senate floor.

Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., the assistant majority leader who initially blocked the appointment, will hold a reception in Burris’ honor.
