Ben Martin, considered the father of Air Force football, headlines the six inductees who form the academy’s second Athletic Hall of Fame class, which will be enshrined May 8.

Martin was the AFA football coach from 1958-77, compiling a 96-103-9 record during the days when the Falcons played an independent schedule. His 1958 team compiled a 9-0-2 record, the only unbeaten season in Air Force’s football history. The Falcons tied Texas Christian 0-0 in the Cotton Bowl after getting a waiver from the NCAA to play in the Dallas game because Air Force had not graduated a senior class.

Two of Martin’s best players, quarterback Terry Isaacson and flanker Ernie Jennings, also will be inducted. Besides his football contributions, Isaacson was a three-time wrestling All-American.

Jennings was Air Force’s second of five consensus All-Americans in football, receiving the honor in 1970.

Others scheduled for induction at the academy’s Falcon Club are Jim Bowman, a longtime coach and administrator in the athletic department; quarterback Dee Dowis, a Heisman Trophy finalist in 1989; and distance runner Callie Molloy, a five-time NCAA Division II track champion. Molloy is the sister of Air Force football coach Troy Calhoun.

Rapids acquire Galaxy defender.

The Rapids traded for Los Angeles defender Ty Harden, sending a third- round pick in Thursday’s MLS SuperDraft to the Galaxy.

Harden, the Galaxy’s best defender in 2007, did not play in 2008 after he decided to sit out a year. He set a Major League Soccer record in 2007 by starting in 24 games as a rookie.

Colorado still has six selections in the St. Louis- hosted draft (noon, ESPN2), starting with the 20th overall pick in the second round.
