EAGLE, Colo.—Authorities say a letter containing an unknown white powder prompted evacuations at the Eagle County sheriff’s administration office.
The letter arrived at the office through the mail at about 1:20 p.m. Tuesday.
The sheriff’s office says it followed protocol and immediately sealed off the affected area.
Two employees came into contact with the substance and were quarantined until a hazmat team determined the material wasn’t toxic.
The Eagle County jail and combined courts are in the same building as the sheriff’s administration office but were not affected by the incident.
The evacuation was lifted shortly before 3 p.m.
An investigation is under way by the Eagle Police Department.
