PLANO, Texas — Texas Tech wide receiver Michael Crabtree said Tuesday he’s giving up his final two years of eligibility to enter the NFL draft.

Crabtree averaged 120.3 yards and 1.6 touchdowns per game. His career totals of 231 catches for 3,127 yards and 41 touchdowns would be remarkable over three or four years. Compiled over only two years, it’s no wonder he was an All-American both seasons and was a two-time winner of the Biletnikoff Award.

Texas Tech defensive end Brandon Williams also announced he’s entering the draft. The reigning Big 12 sack leader is projected to be a third-round pick.

Others declaring for the draft were:

• Ball State quarterback Nate Davis, who threw for 26 touchdowns and only eight interceptions as a junior.

• Boise State junior receiver Jeremy Childs, who ranks as the school’s No. 2 all-time receptions leader (168).

• Georgia junior cornerback Asher Allen, who was fourth on the team with 53 tackles.

• Penn State DE Aaron Maybin, who led the Big Ten with 12 sacks as a sophomore.

Meanwhile, Oklahoma defensive tackle Gerald McCoy and USC safety Taylor Mays said they would return for their junior and senior seasons, respectively.

BC names Spaziani coach

BOSTON — Longtime assistant Frank Spaziani was selected to succeed Jeff Jagodzinski as coach at Boston College.

Jagodzinski was fired last week after two seasons when he interviewed for the New York Jets coaching job after being told he would be dismissed if he did so.

Spaziani, 61, spent two seasons as BC’s running backs coach before becoming defensive coordinator in 1999.

Footnotes.

Utah coach Kyle Whittingham, who guided the Utes to a 13-0 record and victory over Alabama in the Sugar Bowl, received the American Football Coaches Association’s coach of the year award.

• Stanford coach Jim Harbaugh said he will stay with the Cardinal despite speculation he might interview for NFL openings.

• New Mexico State quarterback J.J. McDermott is transferring to SMU and receiver LaVorick Williams will leave for Texas Tech.

• Former USC linebacker Eric Scoggins died of Lou Gehrig’s disease Friday in Tracy, Calif. He was 49.
