Westminster-based Tri-State Generation and Transmission Association is studying the prospect of turning a coal-fired power plant in New Mexico into a hybrid generating station that would use concentrating- solar-power technology.
Tri-State signed an agreement with Electric Power Research Institute in December to explore the viability of the technology at its Escalante Generating Station in Prewitt, N.M.
