DENVER—The driver of a shuttle van that crashed into a pole in Littleton has been charged with careless driving resulting in death, a misdemeanor.
Ninety-year-old Margaret Seaman died from a broken neck after hitting her head against a hand rail when the van crashed into a pole Wednesday in the parking lot of a shopping center.
Littleton police say Seaman and 19 other residents of the RiverPointe Senior Community were headed to a restaurant in the shuttle van when the crash occurred.
The driver, 65-year-old Thomas Giampaolo, a Riverpointe employee, told police he was distracted by another car when the bus struck the pole.
Lt. Mike Broadhead says eight other Riverpointe residents were taken to area hospitals, but none were seriously hurt. One person suffered four broken ribs.
