The hits just keep coming at Antero Reservoir, but some catches come at a bigger price than others. Take, for example, the 27-inch, 9-pounder hooked by Stephen Schoenberger on Jan. 10.
When the Englewood resident finally got the big rainbow up to his ice hole after a 15-minute tug, he found the hook barely hanging in the lip. That’s when his buddy, Brian Ireland, sprang into action.
“Brian put his arm in all the way up to his shoulder and popped him out. It takes a good friend and a real man to go shoulder deep in sub-zero temps,” Schoenberger said.
The catch came on a Ratfinkee jig with 6-pound test line.
