WIDEFIELD — A man has apparently killed himself after an armed standoff with police.
El Paso County Sheriff’s deputies went to a home Friday night after a woman said her husband was firing assault rifles in the house.
She escaped safely, but deputies stood by for more than 30 minutes while they heard gunshots, some of them directed at officers outside.
Efforts to communicate with the man failed, and after a period where no more shots were heard, officers entered to find the man dead, apparently of a gunshot.
The man was not immediately identified, and no one else was hurt.
