Vandals slashed tires of nine private vehicles owned by firefighters at four fire stations on Sunday night.

The vandals hit stations throughout the city, said Denver Fire Department spokesman Phil Champagne.

Firefighters must leave their stations to handle emergencies. From time to time, vandals use their absence to slash tires, and it isn’t that uncommon, Champagne said.

“I’m sure that this is just an oddball incident that happens from time to time,” he said. “We’re not immune to it.”
