Mike Benson has been named chairman of Visit Denver, the city’s convention and visitors bureau, the agency announced Tuesday.
Benson, senior vice president of business affairs and treasurer for Kroenke Sports Enterprises, led Kroenke Sports’ and the Pepsi Center’s efforts to land the 2001 NHL All-Star Game and the 2002-06 Grand Prix of Denver. He also dealt with financial aspects of the 2005 NBA All-Star Game and negotiated contracts and managed implementation and compliance for the Democratic National Convention.
As chairman, Benson will lead a 40-member board, which oversees the operations of the agency, which is charged with marketing the city as a convention and leisure destination.
He succeeds Annette Quintana, chief executive of Istonish.
Benson has been with Kroenke Sports since 1996. Previously, he worked for Kroenke’s former parent company, Ascent Entertainment Group, where he worked in corporate finance, treasury and insurance. Elizabeth Aguilera, The Denver Post
