AURORA — A woman who was shot and killed Monday afternoon was just trying to break up an argument, but instead her family is mourning her death.

Police identified the victim as 37-year-old Shunda Renee Jackson.

Jackson was shot in a parking lot in the 9700 block of East Colfax Avenue.

Someone in the two groups pulled out a gun and started firing. Police believe Jackson was “attempting to quell a heated argument” when she was struck by several gunshots.

Jackson’s brother, Shalon Jackson of Florida, said his sister has three children and was trying to straighten out her life.

The fact that she tried to intervene did not surprise him.

“She’s always been a peacemaker,” Shalon Jackson said.

No suspects have been arrested.
