ARVADA, Colo.—Authorities say an 83-year-old man is dead, after he and his dog were pulled from an Arvada lake.
Animal management officers responded to a call at about 3:30 p.m. Wednesday about a dog that appeared to be stuck in Four Acre Lake, near West 51st Avenue and Everett Street. They used a long catch pole to pull the dog to safety.
Arvada fire spokesman Scott Pribble says firefighters arrived at the scene after the animal was rescued and spotted a baseball cap in the water. He says a diver then found the dog’s owner about 10 feet from the shore.
Paramedics performed CPR on the man and then transported him to Lutheran Medical Center, where he died.
Authorities weren’t sure how the man ended up in the water, but say he was submerged for at least half an hour. His name was withheld pending notification of family.
