AURORA — Because of a scheduling conflict with the Air Force Academy, the Colorado High School Activities Association has been forced to move the Class 1A boys and girls basketball championships.
CHSAA assistant commissioner Bert Borgmann said Thursday that the AFA informed the CHSAA last Friday the academy would most likely be hosting an NCAA hockey playoff series the same weekend as the 1A tournament, scheduled for March 11-14.
“That would require them having that facility available to their folks on Friday evening, us moving at least three games out of there, and on Saturday, at some point, moving one or two games out of there,” Borgmann said.
Instead of relocating a few games, Borgmann is exploring moving the tournament entirely to the Pueblo Events Center or the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley.
There is no word on when a move will be finalized. Borgmann hopes to do it “as soon as I can.”
