ARVADA, Colo.—Authorities have identified the 83-year-old man who died after he and his dog were pulled from an Arvada lake.
The Jefferson County coroner says Maximiano Vigil of Arvada was pronounced dead Wednesday at Lutheran Hospital in Wheat Ridge, where he was taken after a diver found him under water.
Animal management officers responded to a call just before 3:30 p.m. Wednesday about a dog that appeared to be stuck in Four Acre Lake. They used a long catch pole to pull the dog to safety.
Arvada fire spokesman Scott Pribble says firefighters arrived a short time later and spotted a baseball cap in the water. A diver found Vigil about 10 feet from shore.
Authorities aren’t sure how Vigil ended up in the lake, but say he was submerged at least a half hour.
