MOGADISHU, Somalia — A suicide car-bomb attack near an African Union peacekeepers’ base killed 14 people in the Somali capital Saturday, the mayor of Mogadishu said.

The bombing occurred days before a planned deployment of Ugandan and Burundian soldiers to beef up the peacekeeping contingent.

Most of southern and central Somalia is held by Islamic insurgents, and peacekeepers and government forces come under regular attack in the capital.

Mayor Mohamed Osman Ali said it was unclear who was behind the attack.
