Nuggets coach George Karl said injured guard Dahntay Jones is “going to try to play” Sunday against Utah, an important Northwest Division game.
Jones suffered a first-degree separation of his right shoulder Tuesday during a pregame workout. Initially, Karl suggested Jones could be out up to two weeks.
Jones worked out at the Pepsi Center with the Nuggets’ strength and conditioning staff today and had an examination with Dr. Steve Traina. Jones is one of Denver’s better defenders. If he’s able to play, Jones will start, Karl said.
Also, Carmelo Anthony (broken hand) has been cleared to begin shooting and dribbling. He will be re-examined Thursday. Anthony said his goal is to return for the Jan. 30 game against Charlotte.
