The U.S. Senate has passed the Omnibus Public Lands Management Act, which lists added protection for 250,000 acres in Rocky Mountain National Park and approval of the Wyoming Range Legacy Act among its 160 separate proposals.

The act represents the largest expansion of the National Wilderness Preservation System in 15 years, designating 2.1 million acres of permanent wilderness in nine states.

Another aspect of the package is the National Landscape Conservation System Act, creating 850 federally recognized areas covering 27 million acres under Bureau of Land Management purview. The measure now moves to the House of Representatives.
