A blue-ribbon business-advisory group charged with stimulating the Colorado economy threw out some ideas Tuesday at a meeting with Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper.

The ideas, however, aren’t ready for public consumption, officials said.

Hickenlooper chief of staff Kelly Brough said the group chose to keep the details of the meeting under wraps until the stimulus plans can be discussed more and refined.

The group of about 80 business leaders, commissioned by Hickenlooper and Gov. Bill Ritter, is charged with accelerating infrastructure proj ects and creating a business-led economic-stimulus package.

“These (members) are highly motivated,” Brough said. “Just getting the group together and talking will generate some pretty cool ideas.”

One of the ideas previously announced is a proposal by a consortium of local banks to commit up to $500 million in loans for credit- starved commercial-real-estate proj ects.

“Accelerating our infrastructure projects means that the city of Denver will pump $200 million per year into the Denver economy over the next three years, stimulating spending at every level of our regional economy and helping keep people employed,” Hickenlooper said last month. “We will also help our partners in the public and private sectors accelerate their local infrastructure projects as well.”
