WALSENBURG, Colo.—The Colorado State Patrol says a woman is in custody and a man is in the hospital after troopers found 587 pounds of marijuana at the scene of a one-vehicle crash on Interstate 25 in southern Colorado.

Authorities say an SUV lost control, struck a guardrail and rolled near Walsenburg on Tuesday morning.

The 31-year-old driver was seriously hurt and transported to a nearby hospital. His 27-year-old passenger suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene.

The patrol says troopers discovered the marijuana while investigating the crash.

The passenger was arrested on charges including unlawful possession of marijuana with intent to distribute. She was transported to the Huerfano County jail, where she was being held on a $100,000 bond.

The patrol says the man and woman are from New Mexico. Their names were not released.
