Gov. Bill Ritter on Wednesday announced the 2008 winners of the second annual “Governor’s Excellence in Renewable Energy Awards.”

The awards honored outstanding contributions to provide clean power through renewable energy.

The winners were: Chuck Kutscher, a 30-year employee of the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, in the individual category; Denver-based Coolerado Corp., a maker of air-conditioning systems, small-business category; Ascent Solar, a Littleton maker of thin-film solar modules, large company winner; Red Rocks Community College in Lakewood, for the institutions sector; and Boulder-based Western Resource Advocates, the nonprofit winner.
