“The Bluebird is not quite the place for STS9. Not enough room to move around and dance, and painfully crowded. I kept mostly to my corner, whereas their Filmore show last winter was much more dance-friendly. Being a DJ set, only the drummer was playing a real instrument and he was way in the back of the stage. Very unusual for him, as he’s such an integral part of the band and is usually planted on the edge of the stage (everyone else had laptops).
I missed the bassist’s regal stances in the blasting light. And the lighting, while good, was nothing like their normal setup. The LED webbing in front of the band acted as a fence between the dancers down front trying to see the band, which was dumb. It should have been mounted a few feet lower.”
