Jason Chaffetz is a conservative, married father of three from Utah who is sleeping on a cot in his congressional office to save money. Jared Polis is a liberal, openly gay man from Colorado who ranks as the third-wealthiest member of the House.
What does this odd couple have in common besides being freshman congressmen from the West? They are both providing firsthand reports and video blogs to CNN about what it’s like to be the new guy on Capitol Hill’s block.
“It’s a great opportunity to show people what happens behind the scenes in Congress,” Chaffetz said.
Polis said C-SPAN just isn’t able to catch the details of life on the Hill.
“It’s not just hearings and votes. This is a great way to let people see what really goes on in the daily life of a member of Congress and to show how hard we work to represent our constituents back home,” he said.
