Colorado State athletic director Paul Kowalczyk steadfastly refused comment Saturday night on whether volleyball coach Tom Hilbert has submitted his resignation to accept the same position at Colorado.

“I have no comment,” Kowalczyk said. Further fueling speculation, Hilbert and his family were not in their usual Moby Arena seats at the men’s basketball game. With a 13-1 career record against CU, 12 straight NCAA volleyball bids and a 307-79 overall record, Hilbert, who also is a six-time Mountain West coach of the year, is a natural consideration for CU’s vacancy. An announcement is expected as early as Monday.

Another record for CU’s Barringer.

In her first race since finishing ninth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the Beijing Olympics, University of Colorado senior Jenny Barringer set her second school record with a first-place finish in the 3,000-meter run at the UW Indoor Invitational in Seattle. Her time of 8 minutes, 53.88 seconds also qualified her automatically for the NCAA indoor track championships.

Lopez, DU dominate.

Senior All-American Jessica Lopez won the vault, beam and floor exercise, and also tied for first on the bars as the No. 22 University of Denver gymnasts swept all four team events in winning a quadrangular meet at Hamilton Gymnasium. DU posted a season-high 195.300 points vs. Kent State (193.600), Alaska-Anchorage (186.775) and Winona State (183.350).
