The Boulder County Coroner has identified the victim of a fatal car-pedestrian accident in Lafayette yesterday as a 57-year-old Louisville man.

John Breaux was killed following the 2:30 p.m. accident Friday just north of South Boulder Road when a 62-year-old Boulder woman veered off U.S. 287, authorities say.

Lafayette police say the man was walking on the side of the highway when a northbound vehicle swerved onto the shoulder and hit him.

The Boulder County coroner’s office later identified the victim as 57-year-old John Breaux of Louisville.

Police say the driver has been arrested. Saturday afternoon, she was identified as Mary Jo Anne Thomas.

Thomas was in police custody at Exempla Good Samaritan Hospital in Lafayette. Police said she is under arrest pending charges of vehicular homicide and driving under the influence of drugs.

Louisville Mayor Chuck Sisk says Breaux was “well-known and well-loved” in the community.

Friends say Breaux was often seen picking up litter. The city presented him with a “mayoral proclamation” and gift certificate in 2005 “in appreciation for his efforts to keep Louisville a clean city.”
