PECOS, Texas — Authorities say more than 1,000 inmates are involved in the second prison riot in the past month at a privately run federal prison in western Texas.
Texas Department of Public Safety spokeswoman Tela Mange said troopers from the Pecos area are responding to the disturbance in the yard of the Reeves County Detention Center.
Mange said she had no information on when the riot began or whether there were injuries. A spokeswoman for the Reeves County Sheriff’s Department said he had no information about the riot.
In December, rioting inmates at the prison, about 200 miles east of El Paso, sought better medical treatment. There were minor injuries.
The GEO Group, based in Boca Raton, Fla., runs the prison.
