The Post Preps staff looks at Saturday’s action in high school sports:

BOYS BASKETBALL

Thomas Bropleh’s game-high 31 points helped George Washington shake off a sluggish first half Saturday as the Patriots rolled over Montbello 77-53 in Denver Prep League play at the Thunderdome.

Twenty of Bropleh’s points came in the second half. GW, which led 25-24 at halftime, moved to 18-0 overall, 3-0 in the DPL. The Patriots are No. 4 in The Denver Post/9News 5A poll.

Tony Adams added 24 points for GW, 12 in the first quarter.

Sean Edwards scored 19 for Montbello (8-8, 0-2), which lost by two points to the Pats before Christmas.

Spartans buzz

COLORADO SPRINGSLITTLETON — Matt Oesterle’s only points of the game for Doherty came with just five seconds left against Rampart. The No. 7 Spartans capped off a big week with a 70-69 victory over the Rams on their home floor in the 5A C.S. Metro League.

Moments after Alex Koehler gave Rampart the lead with his fifth 3-pointer, Doherty, now with a two-game league lead, got one last chance with 10 seconds remaining.

Tyler Velasquez’s first 3-pointer missed, and brother Bryse got the rebound. When his putback was contested by two Rams, Bryse went no-look, behind-the-back to Oesterle for the winner. Both Velasquez brothers had 17 points.

Rampart, which has lost just three times (twice to Doherty), was paced by Koehler’s 25.

Skiers in OT

Taylor Mayer scored a goal 38 seconds into overtime to lift Aspen past Kent Denver 3-2 at The Edge.

Kent Denver (5-8-0) had led on goals by James Kreidle and Pete Dikeou 1:15 apart early in the first period. However, Aspen (8-5-0) came back behind goals from Nicky Ufkes and Laker Mines.
