Arapahoe Basin’s seventh annual Beacon Bowl and Avalanche Awareness Day is a great way to tighten up your backcountry rescue game.

The Colorado Avalanche Information Center benefit is an avalanche transceiver competition in which contestants race the clock in a search for buried beacons. The event starts at 10 a.m. Saturday and features free clinics with A-Basin Ski Patrol and Backcountry Access (BCA) until noon, followed by avalanche dog and snow pit demonstrations at the base of the Lenawee Mountain lift at 1 p.m. Telemark instruction also is offered at 10 a.m. and 1:15 p.m. for $55.

Registration for Beacon Bowl competition includes a raffle ticket, a beverage and a slice of pizza at the après-ski party (3:30 p.m.) with a $15 donation to the CAIC. Register at A-Basin on the day of the event.
