RALEIGH, N.C. — Hurricanes captain Rod Brind’Amour is coming back from the team’s West Coast trip early because of a lower-body injury.

The Hurricanes said Brind’Amour would not play tonight at San Jose. Coach Paul Maurice said the forward was slowed by a “nagging lower-body issue that he’s been dealing with for a while.”

The Hurricanes also said they would recall forward Jakub Petruzalek from Albany (N.Y.) of the American Hockey League and place forward Scott Walker on the injured list because of an upper-body injury.

Ducks, Canucks make deal

ANAHEIM, Calif. — The Ducks acquired forward Mike Brown from the Canucks in exchange for defenseman Nathan McIver.

Brown, 23, has one assist and 85 penalty minutes — tied for second on the Canucks — this season. McIver, 24, appeared in 18 games for Anaheim this season, with one assist and 36 penalty minutes.
