LINCOLN, Neb.—Nebraska coach Bo Pelini signed just two homegrown football players to letters of intent but said he’s committed to scouring the state in search of talent.
The only Nebraskans in the class of 21 recruits announced Wednesday are running back C.J. Zimmerer of Omaha Gross and defensive lineman Cole Pensick out of Lincoln Northeast.
Pelini noted that 10 of the 11 walk-ons announced Wednesday are from Nebraska, and more are on the way.
The Huskers signed four Nebraskans last year. Bill Callahan’s 2007 class had just two in-state recruits.
Rivals.com national recruiting editor Jeremy Crabtree said the numbers indicate that high school football is in a down cycle in Nebraska.
