Vitamin Cottage Natural Food Markets Inc. has recalled fresh-ground peanut butter due to risk of salmonella. The company does not believe its peanuts are contaminated but issued the recall as a precautionary measure, according to an announcement from the company Wednesday.
Peanuts from the Peanut Corporation of America’s Georgia facility have been connected to a salmonella outbreak. Three of the 13 Coloradans who became sick ate Vitamin Cottage ground peanut butter.
Vitamin Cottage also discontinued sales and handling of ground peanut butter in local stores. And customers who have the product are advised to return it for a full refund or to throw it away.
