Getting your player ready...

After hinting this week that the women’s basketball program needed some stability, Colorado State athletic director Paul Kowalczyk gave first-year coach Kristen Holt a four-year contract extension Thursday.

Holt, 39, was promoted from assistant coach after Jen Warden was fired in March.

The last two years under Warden saw nonstop turmoil and player attrition, culminating in last season’s 4-28 record (0-16 Mountain West). This season, the Rams are 7-14 overall, 2-6 in conference play. That’s nowhere close to the success CSU enjoyed through 2002 under coach Tom Collen, but Holt has changed the culture.

“She can teach, coach, recruit, manage, mentor and lead,” Kowalczyk said in a statement.
