A power outage has prompted the Denver Museum of Nature & Science to shut down for the rest of the day.

Visitors have been sent home and the doors closed.

The museum expects to be able to reopen at its normal time of 9 a.m. Tuesday.

Xcel Energy confirmed a temporary outage in the area bordered by Colorado Boulevard, Vine Street and East Colfax and East 39th avenues.

Spokesperson Joe Fuentes said about 2,200 users were impacted when a tree blew into a power line early this afternoon.

The zoo temporarily lost power, he said, but it was restored at 1:21 p.m.

Zoo spokesperson Tiffany Barnhart said the power at the zoo was only down for about 10 minutes and didn’t impact operations.
