Prosecutors and the defense have rested in the trial of a Boulder man charged with fatal child abuse in the death of his 11-week-old son.

Alex Midyette, 29, is charged in the March 2006 death of Jason Midyette. Closing statements are expected today.

Prosecutors say Jason had 37 broken bones. Midyette’s attorneys said Jason suffered from a metabolic disease and wasn’t abused. A doctor testified that Jason had bone abnormalities that were misidentified. A doctor for prosecutors said Jason’s skull was fractured seven to 10 days before he died.

Molly Midyette was convicted of child abuse for failing to get medical attention for her son. The Associated Press
