DENVER—Longmont police have arrested a Denver man on accusations that he used his power of attorney to steal from a 93-year-old blind relative.

Police say 61-year-old Mark Pressey stole up to $535,323 from 1996 to 2007 from the unnamed relative’s retirement account. Pressey was arrested Tuesday.

Police say he began paying back $1,000 a month once an investigation began 10 months ago.

Pressey is accused of taking money from the retirement account without his relative’s knowledge to pay off his own medical bills and to start several unsuccessful businesses.

Police say he also got credit cards in the relative’s name and cashed out a life insurance policy.

Pressey is free on a $100,000 bond.
