The Colorado Division of Wildlife is seeking volunteers to complete its Wildlife Transport Team, a unit that responds to public calls to transfer sick or injured wildlife to licensed rehabilitators in the Denver metro. Proper training is provided, and most of the transport involves smaller animals. Volunteers should register by Friday by phoning 303-291-7369 or by e-mail to mary.mccormac@state.co.us. A training session will be Feb. 21.
Bighorn return.
After an absence dating to the early part of the last century, bighorn sheep have been returned to Gore Canyon, an area of steep cliffs along the Colorado River just west of Kremmling. The Colorado Division of Wildlife in January transplanted 14 bighorns captured at the Basalt State Wildlife Area. Biologists will use radio tracking collars to monitor the herd’s movement and general well-being over the next few years.
Hunt for youth.
The Northern Colorado Chapter of Pheasants Forever will host a youth hunt, available to the first 45 who apply after the beginning registration Feb. 21. The hunt will be March 14.
